HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) — The Virginia Value Veterans Program, or V3 Program, is looking to expand more in the Shenandoah Valley, hoping to get veterans placed into more jobs across a variety of different industries.
The V3 Program, which runs through the Virginia Department of Veteran services, works with businesses to train, hire and retain veterans.
The department has a partnership with the Shenandoah Valley Workforce Development Board in Harrisonburg and is looking to hire a fourth regional program manager in the state to reach more businesses.
If a business is certified through the program, it means that company is dedicated to hiring veterans in its workforce, something leaders with the program say is important.
“When you’re working through the V3 certified company and the process, you’re able to invigorate the community to become a great partner and steward for veterans and also transitioning service members and their families as they come back to the Shenandoah Valley and the region around the Commonwealth,” said Michael Bluemling Jr, the V3 Program Manager.
Local communities can host a V3 training day with the VADVS or businesses can go to a training in Hampton Roads, Richmond, or Northern Virginia.
There are many V3 Certified employers already in the Valley and in Central Virginia, including: Albemarle County Police Dept, American Made Signs LLC, Ball Metal, Cargill, City of Staunton, Dynamic Aviation, Frontier Culture Museum of VA, JMU, Local Energy Alliance Program, LSC Communications MicroAire Surgical Instruments, Shenandoah Tower Service, Ltd, Shine Systems and Technologies, Staunton City Schools, UVA, Virginia Dept of Forestry, and VMI. Other employers are currently enrolled to be certified.
The Dominion Energy Charity Classic Tournament will also benefit the V3 Program in Richmond. There will also be a hiring fair before the tournament on October 16 from 9 am until 1 pm at the The Country Club of Virginia in Richmond.
